Comic Collection purchased August 2008

(August 21, 2008) - Last week someone contacted me about buying their father's comic book collection.  Typically I will ask a few questions to get a better idea of the collection.  How old?  What condition?  What type of books?  How many?  This particular collection sounded interesting except for 2 things, the size and the organization.

Apparently this gentleman's father had collected for many years before he passed away 2 years ago. Over his 30 years of collecting he had amassed a collection of around 100 long boxes, which is a huge collection. Since he had three kids, they split the collection into 3 parts. I was invited to purchase 50 boxes of comics. That in itself is a major undertaking but this collection WASN'T organized!!

I tried to get him to organize the collection but he didn't want to so we reached a compromise. I would organize the collection but in exchange I'd get to pick only the issues I wanted. He agreed.

After spending 7-1/2 hours organizing I walked out of his house tired but with 3-1/2 boxes of great comic books. Virtually everything I bought was from 1945 to 1975 with just a couple exceptions. Highlights - Batman comics from the late 40's in very fine condition - A huge stack of Tales to Astonish - - A great run of Brave and the Bold including some key 1st appearances - Neal Adams artwork on all kinds of titles.

I'll be listing the vast majority of it on eBay in the next 2 to 3 weeks. The first comics will be some DC superhero books, then I'll start on the Marvel books.  As I list them they will appear in the box below.
