According to director, Jon Favreau, (Elf, Zethura) the only difference between our complicated world and and the Iron Man world is an advanced suit of armor.  His goal is to make the movie realistic, harsh and life like.  After watching the trailer to Iron Man it looks as though Mr. Favreau accomplished his goal. 

Tony Stark is an industrialist who works on weapons is kidnapped by an arms dealer to create a sinister new missile for him. But Stark, Downey, makes a body armor like the original Iron Man suit to break free.

The trailer for Iron Man captures a couple of key elements. The first is Downey's sense of humor with "Hey, no gang signs". The second is the strong tie between the music and the action. When Black Sabbath starts jamming to the Iron Man song from 1970 and the onscreen Iron Man appears it really sets the tone.
